시카고뷰티협 “가족들 유일한 생계수단 사라져, 도움 절실하다”
시카고 소재 Noah Beauty Supply (대표 노재영 / 전 시카고 뷰티협회 회장)이 지난달 5월 7일 아침, 전기 합선으로 인해 큰 화재가 발생, 건물 내부와 모든 상품들이 소실되었다고 한다.
시카고협회 이형복 회장은 “오너인 노재영님은 이번 화재로 유일한 생계 수단이 모두 사라졌다”고 도움을 호소하면서 “노재영님은 서울에서 시카고로 이민 와, 아름다운 꿈을 가지고 새로운 삶을 시작했습니다. 7년간 뷰티 서플라이 매장에서 매니저로 근무하며 경험을 쌓은 후, 정직한 노력과 끈기, 열정을 바탕으로 노아 뷰티 서플라이를 직접 창업하였습니다. 그로부터 18년 동안 이 매장은 단순한 가게를 넘어, 지역 사회의 일원으로서 가족, 미용사, 이웃들을 따뜻하게 맞이하며 신뢰를 쌓아왔습니다. 안타깝게도, 보험금은 피해의 극히 일부만 보상될 예정입니다. 이제 재영님이 지난 20년 가까이 쌓아온 모든 것을 다시 일으키기 위해 우리 모두의 도움이 절실합니다.“라고 덧붙였다.
시카고 협회는 현재 기금 모금활동을 펼치고 있다. 이 회장은 “한인 사회, 사업가, 그리고 우리를 응원해주시는 모든 분들께 간절히 요청드린다”면서 “크고 작은 모든 기부는 큰 힘이 되며, 우리 한인 소상공인의 존재와 가치를 세상에 알리는 뜻깊은 메시지가 된다”고 말했다. 또한 “우리가 함께하면, 어떤 어려움도 극복할 수 있다.” 강조했다.

Chicago-based Noah Beauty Supply (CEO Jae Young Noh, former president of the Chicago Beauty Association) reportedly caught fire on the morning of May 7 due to an electrical short circuit, destroying the building and all of its merchandise.
"The owner, Jae Young Noh, lost his only source of livelihood in the fire," said Chicago Beauty Association President Hyung Bok Lee in a plea for help. "Noh immigrated to Chicago from Seoul and started a new life with beautiful dreams. After seven years of experience as a manager at a beauty supply store, he started Noah Beauty Supply on his own with honest hard work, persistence, and passion. For 18 years, the store has
a pillar of the community, serving local families, stylists, and neighbors with care and dedication. Sadly, insurance will only cover a fraction of the damage. Now, Noh needs our help to rebuild what took nearly two decades to create.”
The Chicago chapter is currently conducting fundraising efforts. "We’re calling on our Korean American community, fellow business owners, and supporters to come together in this time of need. Every donation—big or small—makes a difference and sends a powerful message: Korean American small businesses matter, and we show up for one another.” Lee said. And he emphazised "Together, we can overcome any difficulties."
